STOPLIGHT-AFTERNOON

ATHENA [VO]

3, 2 ,1 the red light hit. I skated to the other side of  the street and it kept running. It chased even after it saw the red light.

The honking of the furious drivers vibrated inside of my ears as I looked at the speeding cars waiting to zoom to their destination. It could’ve been runned over by a car, but it decided to chase after my constellation looking skateboard.

ATHENA

[screams]

You must be crazy right?!

ACE

No, my name is Ace, short for Ezequiel.

ATHENA

Why would you do that? You could have been runned over by one of the buses.

ACE

But I wasn’t.

ATHENA

You gotta be careful dude.

ATHENA, careful to the smallest bit, jumped off her engraved constellation skateboard, wearing a seemingly huge gray Nike crewneck, complimenting her gray cat-like eyes.

ACE

I know. But I wanted to meet you. What’s your name?

ACE, closes the little distance between them.

ACE, clueless about his arrogance, in a faded black Stanford hoodie, carrying a dark pink adidas duffle bag, fierce eyes like a lion ready to catch its prey.

ATHENA [VO]

My hands formed into wrists in a second as I heard those words play in my head. My face grew this dark red as the anger rose to my sweaty forehead. This is how it starts. I have been there and I have done that. I will not make that excruciating mistake again. You may be asking yourself what traumatized her enough that she won’t say her name to this charming man who wants to meet her.

Well you see my dear listener, I was 11 when the disgusting sensation of those teenage boys was left on me. Their touch was left where my NO TRESPASSING sign was hung up. A river was formed until the last drop of oxygen was sucked out of my lungs and my river became ocean. I called for help like an alpha calls its pack in a moment of danger, only for me nobody came to my rescue. My whole body feels like an earthquake,it shudders in fear.

Even after my clothes were ripped and my wrists tainted with what I wanted to believe was spray paint. The police did nothing. They said that I had brought this on myself. And for some very limited minutes I believed that I had.

ATHENA, stumbles to step back as her foot rolls over a rock.
ACE, manages to grab her wrist and help her regain her balance.
ATHENA, shoves his hand away from her wrist.

ATHENA

I don’t have a name and I have to catch my bus.
